| Perth4x4 Rules |
| Rules of Engagement -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It has come to our attention that we (the Perth4x4 Moderator/Admin team) need to clarify the rules applicable to the members of Perth4x4 and the consequences for breaches to them. Upon signing up to Perth4x4 you agreed to adhere to our rules. Most, probably 98% of members are no problem at all whereas the other 2% may need reminding of the rules. There is nothing overwhelming here, just simple rules which if you could stick to, it will make everyone’s life a lot easier. Please note that these rules and consequences are subject to change without notice, so please check back here occasionally to ensure you’re up to speed. Such rules will be binding for all members and ignorance is no excuse. Rule #1 – Offensive Material - No offensive/explicit material, this includes and is not limited to the following; Pornographic/Racist/Sexist material (images/web links/avatars) as we do have some under age members on here, we have had problems with this in the past and we don’t want a reoccurrence. If you really feel the urge, send it via PM, not in view of the general public. Rule #2 – Swearing - The use of foul language is getting out of hand and while we prefer people not to use it, we don't mind the occasional "softer" swear words as long as it’s not aggressive, insulting, crude or gratuitous. Yes there’s a filter in place but we are aware that there are ways around it. Deliberately “skirting around” the filter will not be tolerated. Rule #3 – Opinions - Be respectful of others opinions on any topic, you may post replies but please be respectful of what others think on the same topic in question, in short we don’t want to see WWIV on the forums. We have to clean the mess up after your bloodbath so try to keep it clean and be mindful of us. Rule #4 – Flaming - Do not verbally flame users, they have an equal right to post replies/topics on the forums as you do, so try and keep it civilised. This simply keeps Perth4x4 a friendly community that people want to come back to, unlike other forums where there is continuous bickering which does wear a little thin after a while, keep in mind other people are here for the same reasons as yourself. This also includes abuse via PM. Rule #5 – Advertising or Plugging a Company or Venture - Due to the need arising we have developed a section called Friends of Perth 4x4 for sale-offers for approved people/organisations to advertise or offer Perth4x4 members their products and/or services, see this link http://www.perth4x4.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=37 (see the sticky in this section for more detailed guidelines. Therefore this section is the only place that approved free advertising is allowed on Perth4x4, unless a website is available then a link maybe posted in the "Neighbours" section aswell with a brief discription. As before advertising in your Signature or User Title is still against the rules. Rule #6 - Speeding / Drag Racing / Idiotic Driving / Accessing areas that are off limits - 99% of us have all done it at some point, a public forum is not the best place to be bragging about what you have done in your 4wd or any vehicle for that matter. This is not only a confession on your behalf which will hold up in a court of law quite easily but you can end up getting yourself in a whole pile of trouble for something you believe to be quite innocent. All of the threads / posts will be removed without question. Unless we choose to make an example of your stupidity. Rule #7 - Private Conversations & Padding - No calling people out. Eg starting a thread or taking over a thread to ask something of someone, use private messaging, email or MSN for that. Blatant padding will be deleted i.e. consecutive posts, smiley only posts, "PM SENT" or similar are not valid posts and will be deleted. The above examples just clog up the system & the rest of us aren't really interested. Rule #8 - Multiple user names - Users are permitted to register one username only. Speak to Admin if you would like to change your username. Rule #9 – Signatures and User Titles - Must have no commercial content, advertising, Promotion or web links. Anyone wishing to promote their product, service or website can do so through the appropriate sections of the forum. The only exception to this rule regarding web links is that of offsite picture hosting of 4wds and related trip pics. To have these links you need to display it as My Pics Here to do this you need to insert your web address and surround it like this: {URL=http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v334/ovaworked/}My Pics Here{/URL} Please note that the ‘{ & }‘ style brackets will need to be replaced with [ & ] to create the code that the computer uses to change the URL to display it as: My Pics Here If you are unsure how to do this or what is acceptable, then PM or email the Admin team for clarification. Anyone bending the rules will be warned once any further breaches and that member will lose the option of having a signature and user title. Admins decision is final. Rule #10 – Defamation - Slanderous posts or threads will be deleted, while we encourage people to share their experience, there is usually more than one side to a story. Resolving issues directly with the people concerned is the best way forward. Please only post if you are including all details as perth4x4 will not be used to take cheap shots. Rule #11 – Playing Nice - What this boils down to is, this forum is here for your benefit, so treat it and its members with respect. No behaving like a forum Troll ( someone who just wants to stir the pot ). Be warned, anyone in contradiction of the above rules and/or intent of the rules will be dealt with in accordance to the Perth4x4 disciplinary guidelines which are set out below: Rule #12 - The Perth4x4 Name - In short this means that anyone found to harm the Perth4x4 image, either by posting on the forum or acting in a manner that is disrespectful to the environment, Perth4x4, its members or the general public whilst representing Perth4x4 will be reprimanded. Particularly if you or your vehicle sports the Perth4x4 name then you are expected to act in an appropriate manner and lead by example for the rest of the 4wding community. You will not be applauded for idiocy! Consequences for breaches of the above rules -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have opted for a 4 strike system which we believe is the fairest way of dealing with the above. Any level of reprimand maybe applied as the Admin / Moderators see fit. Disciplinary 1 – Inappropriate material in a thread or post will be removed with a friendly PM (Private Message) or warning from the infraction system, reminding the user of the ‘Rules of Engagement’ where required. Disciplinary 2 – Thread / Post removed and member is placed on moderator moderation meaning any post / thread he / she makes will have to be moderator approved prior to showing up in the forum. Depending on the nature of the problem this can vary in time, you will be contacted once you have ‘normal’ member rights again. Disciplinary 3 – If you find yourself in this situation a week ban will apply or however long we deem appropriate. Disciplinary 4 – If after all of the above you find yourself in this predicament a permanent ban will be the end result including contact with the parties involved like your Internet Provider. You will be amazed how accommodating Internet Providers can be if something has been abused and can result in termination of your service. As a side note, rarely would you find yourself straight at ‘Disciplinary 4’, in situations such as attempted site hacking, server abuse, or threats towards fellow members including Moderators and Admin will be dealt with accordingly to what we deem as being appropriate. We know these rules seem harsh but the vast majority of our members are doing the right thing and these people have nothing to worry about. If you have concerns with a post made in the forum, email the Moderators or the Administrator. DO NOT START A THREAD TO DISCUSS IT IN THE OPEN FORUM. If any member feels they have been victimised by an Administrator, Moderator and / or another member then send an email to admin@perth4x4.net, ultimately the Administrator’s choice is final. The viewpoints and opinions expressed by those making posts to this forum are those of the individual concerned and cannot be attributed to the Operators or Moderators of Perth4x4.net. Remember that this is a private forum and membership is at the absolute discretion of the Forum Owner / Administrator. We all want being associated with Perth4x4 to be something to be proud of, not ashamed. That’s all for now, thanks for taking your time in reading the rules and consequences we hope you enjoy your time at Perth4x4. Regards, Perth4x4 Team |
