You'll be right without an EGT for the moment, but if you plan on upping the fuel by a considerable amount, its a good idea to get one.

Get a pyro mate.
Whenever "tuning" a diesel a pyro is a must. Especially a diesel of age.

installation went good todday with everything working how it should. i put the boost gauge on and went for a drive and it was running 8psi boost. pust the boost controler in and now running around 12.5psi, runs bloody good

thats more than a 50% boost increase. get an EGT gauge and adjust the fuel ASAP. not only will it go better it will go for longer

You can easily run up to 14psi and not have to adjust fuel. I'm pretty sure that the 12HT has a boost compensator on the pump to increase fuel delivery as boost rises. I ran my 12HT with upped boost and no fuel adjustment, and no EGT. My gearbox is playing up at the moment but when it was all hunky dorey, it was surprisingly quick car for something as old and bulky as the HJ61!

More boost = lower EGT's. More fuel causes them to increase.
