Default Patrol 4wd noise

98 GU Petrol Manual Wagon

I have a noise that only happens while in 4wd, high or low range, is engaged.

it seems to happen when powering thru softer surfaces or even the slightest rise in the terrain. no change whether in locked or in auto.

the sound is a loud thump, and happens once as u power on, and then just when u think it isnt gonna happen again, it goes thump!

i suspected hubs, have washed out the grease and replaced it with a oil/grease mix, as i heard too much grease was not good. even swapped them left/right. but i think its no longer hub, but not ruled out

i have checked CV's, even changed 1.

ne1 had this on their GU?

All your tyres the same and at same pressures? Sounds like "wind up" to me...

Do you have any mates with GQ/GUs?? Borrow a couple of hubs to completely eliminate them as the problem!

Unhappy

happens when they are 36psi or 15psi.

not sure wat a "wind up" is.

and i am gonna change the hubs neways, cos ive heard so many ppl get rid of the genuine auto hubs.

i have to admit im only interested in beach drives, but its hard to enjoy it when ur not sure if some is about to fall out cos of the thump noise.

will post again after ive changed the hubs.
