SuperCheap Auto have their stocktake sale on at the moment, i just had a bit of an impulse pruchase and bought one of their Ridge Ryder Winches
details are here: http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/onl...219721#details Now, it was only $487, and for the rare times it will be used i think its not a bad option considering its 5.5hp and 9500lb. But on the other hand, it does feel a bit flimsy and a great example of made in china. So, was it a good buy? or should i take it back and wait for a 2nd hand warn?

actually, i did take it back this morning. but it wasnt because i wasnt happy with it, i hadnt even unwrapped it, i just found its bigger brother for only $25 more delivered to my door.
a 6hp, 12,000lb one. looks to be the same brand. http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/p/elec...2000lb-5440kg/ cheers Fozzy for pointing out that thread, thats where i got the link. for the rare time when i will actually use a winch, i rekon it will be plenty

just reading that link for the 12000lb one, it says it should only be used for short burst at a time "10s of seconds rather than minutes" to prevent burning out. is that the norm for most winchs?
or just the cheaper jobs

just the cheaper ones cam...ive seen warns hammered for 2-3 minutes at a time and then only given a 10 - 15second break before another burst....so strong winches can handle constant pulling for longer than 10 seconds...
